Engine noise V70-XC70 1998

Gentlemen...

98 v70... I get a rough rumbleing noise only while accelerating.

If I rev the enging while idleing it runs and reves very smooothly.
It is only while it is picking up speed under load, there is this
low rumbleing sound...? Any Ideas or thought would be much appreciated?

Rgds,
greg.

If it is AWD, then I would suspect the front driveshaft joint.

Otherwise, look for a failed motor mount at the front of the engine, passengerside.

Hi Klaus....

My drive shafts look good and the cv boot. I have replaced the
longer drive shaft about a month ago and yesterday on my other s70
replaced the rubbed pad under the coil spring.. was making noises
and could see the upper shock mount rocking...

The engine noise is on a s70 front wheel... I highly suspect
the turbo.. but havent a clue how to check it as I am of the mind
that under load and while accelelerating, is when I hear it. May be
I am getting paranoid, as realy otherwise the engine runs real smoothly?

My other s70 T5 just go it a couple of weeks ago... I hear the
turbo whine as it spins down when one switches off the ignition.. is
this normal...??

Soooory.. my ignorance... Lookfoward to any advice...
and Thank you All...

Greg

The high pressure turbo can be heard winding down after engine shutoff. You should take care to allow it to cool off before turning the engine off, drive nicely for a few minutes or let it idle for 20-30 seconds.

Turbos do not make "noise" under load, if the bearings go bad you will know it all of the time.

The front engine mount, above the A arm on the passenger side is known to fail in these cars. This will allow the engine to shift under load and rub against things, causing all sorts of vibrations.

Hi Klaus....

Thanks-A-Lot. Your advice regarding the turbo is very comforting & valuable!

My son has taken the car on long trip down south, and will ask im how
it behaved... I am justa worry wart...

My engine mounts are Stable... not jerky, no give/no rock, in any of them.

TakeCare...

Greg
