Engine noise V70-XC70 1998

The high pressure turbo can be heard winding down after engine shutoff. You should take care to allow it to cool off before turning the engine off, drive nicely for a few minutes or let it idle for 20-30 seconds.

Turbos do not make "noise" under load, if the bearings go bad you will know it all of the time.

The front engine mount, above the A arm on the passenger side is known to fail in these cars. This will allow the engine to shift under load and rub against things, causing all sorts of vibrations.
