Good Morning! I am looking at this 1999 Volvo V70 the asking price is 3900.00 Kelley's says 3600.00 in good shape, thinking about offering 3k cash, has 107K miles, I'm also a 240 guy! have had many and still have a 79 and a 91, figured this would be the best place to go and ask about this car! thanks!

1999 V70 - you know the drill: condition, condition, condition V70-XC70

100,000 miles old; if well maintained, not a problem at all. Klaus is right, demand service records. If none, ask why not. If you get an evasive answer, was the previous owner similarly lax with maintenance? It should include 2 electronic key fobs and a concierge key, and owners' manuals.

Service records and more service records. 1999 was the first year for VVT, which is a good thing. It also was the first year for coil over plugs, and the coils are known to fail after getting too hot. The coil over problem is not too bad, about $40-50 each, and usually affects #3 and #4 plugs.

The tranny and engine use synthetic fluids. Expect to flush the tranny, ccoolant, and brake fluids. If you have a good Volvo mechanic around, it would be worth $100 to have it inspected.

Hello, There was some minor confusion during that period. "ATF" was cited as the power steering fluid in the owner's manual. Just flush it with Volvo synthetic fluid or Pentosin CHF 11S (both pale transparant green), if the color has changed to brown or black. My 1999 didn't have VVT. That's almost a moot point since the timing belt and related rollers are the same. I'm told not all 1999s had spin on oil filters, some had replaceable cartridges. If you do buy it, go to a Volvo dealer for the service campaigns regarding the headlight switch and a software download; #s 142 and 155. Remember: Volvo lengthened the warranty on the Electronic Throttle Body to 10 years or 200,000 miles. Because of the unperfected design of the first generation ETB. I'd subtract an additional $1,000 from any offer you'd make. Call it your ETB repair fund-and tell the car dealer so. Let us know what you decide to do. Kira
