I own a 2004 V70XC. I have a question about the shifting of my auto transmission. When the temperature is really cold (below 29 degrees) the transmission shifts hard from first to second. Once the car has warmed up it works fine. Comments.

    Normal. It takes a mile to get the tranny warm so it functions properly. A little longer when you live in Minnesota :)

    Drove my wife's 2003XC this AM and it was -2F. Within the 1st mile it had to shift twice (1st to 2nd) and there was a slight delay on the up shift. A few miles/warm car later it was fine. I was accelerating quite slowly.
    Try slow accelerating vs. normal, try manual shifting and see if you can better define the condition.
    29F ambient is fairly warm for the transmission design parameters..... I would expect smooth as silk shifting.
