Broken Wheel Lug Bolt 850 1997

I broke one of wheel lug bolts while doing rotation - front wheel. I put too much force. Any suggestions how to fix it. The broke part still sits in my wheel. Will replacing rotor fix the problem. Is it safe to drive with just four lugs.

Thank you for your help as always.

Janusz

My '97 850 only had four lugs on the right front wheel when I got it, and the fifth hole's threads are totally ruined. I've been running four lugs there for 1.5 years now and never had a problem. I don't race the car, but as long as you tighten the other four to the proper torque, you should encounter no problems.

If you want to replace the whole thing, you need a new hub. the rotor has nothing to do with it, unfortunately.

Should be OK to drive. Just hold off on the autocrossing 'til you get it fixed. I'd say the broken part is probably in there pretty tight! If you're carefull and handy you can probably drill it out and clean up the threads with a tap providing wheel lug threads aren't anything unusual. But a new hub might be the best way to go.

You might be able to source a used hub (in OK shape, of course!) for less than the time involved in removing that broken lug... fire up that ol' torque wrench, too:)
