Vacuum Valve V70-XC70 2001

We were in Colorado Springs getting ready to head to Durango and the brakes on the V70T5 got VERY hard and idle was rough.
Popped the hood and found a double vacuum valve had come uncapped. I snapped the cap back on and it was OK.
But it popped off a few blocks later. Snapped it back on and it came off again.
We went to WalMart and got Loctite instant adhesive (like Krazy Glue - Loctite invented it) and duct tape.
I glued the cap back in and tore the tape into a narrow strip and sort of tied it together with that.
So far about 400 miles later it is still working OK. I'll probably get a new valve when I get home.
Any of you ever had that little valve blow open?

Hello, Where is this "double vacuum valve" located and what does it do? Kira

The valve is a oneway valve between the intake manifold and the vacuum cannister for the brakes. This is what gives you "power brakes", with out the vacuum you will have a very hard time stopping the car because of the amount of pedal pressure required to gets the calipers to compress.

When the valve fails, not only do you loose braking assist, the vacuum in the intake manifold changes when you push on the pedal and that results in a change in idle speed and fuel misture. In otherwords, the engine bogs down.

You are the first! Congratulations! I would have just used a hose clamp.

A little early in the season for Durango, it's still cold up there but very pretty with the snow capped mountains. I just called my folks in the Springs and they said that it was raining every afternoon - they needed the rain, but enough already.

Well, we made it through Durango, Silverton, Montrose, back to CSprings and are now in Newton, Kansas,
last leg home tomorrow. I may stop at Gorges Volvo in Wichita in the morning, and if they are open Saturday
will see if I can buy a new one.
Loctite (Krazy) glue seems to be holding fine after over 1000 miles.

A hose clamp would not have worked. Both parts were hard plastic with an O ring between.
The glue seems to be working fine so far. The duct tape was just mechanical insurance.
