Vacuum Valve V70-XC70 2001

The valve is a oneway valve between the intake manifold and the vacuum cannister for the brakes. This is what gives you "power brakes", with out the vacuum you will have a very hard time stopping the car because of the amount of pedal pressure required to gets the calipers to compress.

When the valve fails, not only do you loose braking assist, the vacuum in the intake manifold changes when you push on the pedal and that results in a change in idle speed and fuel misture. In otherwords, the engine bogs down.
