Volvo in U.S. 850 1993

Volvo has done consistently and increasingly well in their U.S. sales of cars; they look like the only European carmaker that has rising sales year after year. Is there a chance we will see Alfa Romeo or Peugeot come back to the States, though?

Actually, the best performing European brand right now is VW. Not only they sell the largest volume but they have had the highest increase during the last 6 years.

Alfa? Perhaps but don't count on it for the next 4-5 years. Rumor has it that Peugeot is actively seeking a re-entry into the US market. Perhaps they have learned from their past mistakes.

Rumors are that Alfa Romeo will be coming back for 2005 according to Car and Driver. They may be sold through Saab dealerships (since GM owns a 20% stake in Fiat).

    Peugeot V70-XC70 1998

I saw a couple of brand new Peugeots with "mfg" license plates locally a couple of years ago. Apparently Peugeot was exploring a return to the US market, and they were showing them to potential US dealers whose reception was less than encouraging. They have not been back since.

The manufacturer who everyone wants to emulate in terms of sales growth is BMW.
