Good Service Dept in Virginia? V70-XC70 1998

Just got a 1998 V70XC. Already have a 1995 850 GLT. Looking for good reputable service (dealer or independent) in Northern Virginia area.

Tried Fairfax Volvo . . . had a gut feeling we were ripped off on brake job . . . dealer recommended front brake rotors replaced during 60K service . . . two weeks later, the car vibrated during braking . . . dealer said the rear brake rotors went bad . . . brakes were felt fine before going to the dealer for 60K service. What are the chances of front and rear brake rotors going bad within 2 weeks??? Service advisor sounded like a salesman.

There's an independent shop called DOVE AUTO SERVICE (stupid name) but the Korean-American owner was a Volvo master technician. My 850R is serviced there regularly. Normal turnaround is the same day.

His price is reasonable but sometimes will try to charge close to dealership price for more difficult repairs, but I'd tell him to go to heaven and bargain the price down. I know he's got go make a living too so my counter offers are usually reasonable.

Check out Martin Motorsports. The owner is Gary Martin and his place is

a small performance and service shop. He's very much into Volvos and

BMWs. He's a pretty cool guy and loves to talk shop. I just got my

60k service and an excellent tint job done at his place for my

V70R.

Good Dealer Service... an oxymoron V70-XC70 1998

The service adviser IS a salesman, that is his job, to write as many line items on the service order as possible. It is highly unlikely that the vibration is coming from the rear brakes. If the rear rotors suddenly went bad have them show you with a runout guage reading. I would have them fix the front properly.

Another good one is Scandinavian Import Service in Rockville--near the Metro. 301-340-7222.

Both do very good work at fair prices.
