Timing belt question S40-V40

2001 S40- The instructions say to remove the crank pulley with an impact driver. I do not have any power tools. Should I now forget to attempt this job? Is there a 'go around'?

Timing belt question S40-V40

........i am not sure on your particular model ...but there may be a guard around the crank pulley...if you remove this the belt can be removed without disturbing the crankshaft pulley......of course line up the cam marks before removing......so long as nothing is revolved when you change the belt you don`t have to seen the crank pulley mark ( which is behind the pulley) as you are just swopping belt for belt........

Timing belt question S40-V40

The reason for the impact gun is to keep the crank from moving. There is one other way, called the rope trick.
With a cylinder just past TDC, slip a good length of 1/4 inch rope in to the spark plug hole. This will keep the piston from moving to the top and lock the crank. Then you can loosen the crank bolt.
