Brake lights S60

Hello hope you can help.
Volvo S60 2003 non turbo

Rear brake lights always on, with ignition on or off,I half to disconnect the battery to shut them off, third brake light works fine. Replaced fuses and no change.
When stepping on the brakes, loud humming/ buzzing noise from engine compartment.
What is the problem, driving me crazy, any help would be great.
Thanks
bheli.

You have an unusual problem, as you probably have figured out it is more than just a stuck brake light switch. Can you identify the specific thing that is buzzing under the hood. Do brake lights stay on when stepping on brakes? Key on? Any work or mods done to car before the problem occurred? Any other symptoms? All other lights OK?

Noticed that you waited for some days without an offer to help. Sometimes that happens with a strange problem or a description that lacks sufficient detail. You did not make any friends with your last post, I can forgive that. I am not an S60 expert but will try to help.

I'm sorry but this board is all about being courteous. The tone on this board is so much better than on other boards, even other Volvo boards.

This guy is probably trolling but there is no place for it on this board.

Well! On a old car. A buzzing relay somewhere could be found because our old cars taught us to appreciate their capability to remind us that we humans built them and were are not perfect either.

We know it's some of the simplest things that can make a superb spinning top wobble.

Along with that education came humility and respect for other things in our lives.

Then with a relationship of exchanging a balanced of good for better karma. One can grow with his surrounds and become greater than just himself.

Someone felt he needed assistance and referred him to the Brick Board. Shame! It's another tool that he doesn't have and one he can't buy for his personal tool box!

Check this. This was the first time I ever looked at or posted on S60 forum. The front page blared at me! The reason for that....go figure?

Bert Bert Bert...
Don't do that.. don't talk that way. Please.

As a safety issue, brake lights are not tied to the ignition.. they are always on if the pedal is depressed and battery connected. So, that should lead you to the problem. Either the pedal is depressed, or the switch thinks the pedal is depressed.

Myself being one who drives his old JUNK into the ground, I don't know exactly how the fancy new Volvos work, but I expect its simple enough. Do look into it and get it fixed, as it is a safety issue. Brake lights on all the time are no better than no brake lights at all.

Best of luck in all your endeavors!

He's probably pissed because the free advice didn't work. Of course, had he explained the situation better, he might have received a better answer.

His center brake light works as it should, so the switch at the brake pedal is OK. He probably has a short to ground in one of the tail light assemblies.

I am surprised that this negative post made it to the home page. I thought that only multiple thumps up went there.

Hmmm,

This post makes for a difficult analysis of the poster, but the first thing that comes to mind is: "No redeeming qualities"

So, why S60

are "thumbs down" entries showing up as thumbs up and on the home page? Hmmm, another 'fix' to play with :)

is there a spring on the pedal? Check to see if the pedal is pushed in at all by gently pulling up on it.
