Changing to Synthetic Oil S70 2000

Hi all,

My first post after a very long time lurking. I have a couple of things. First, I recently purchased a 2000 S70 with 82K on it. I am coming up on my first oil change and am considering changing over to a synthetic. I guess I am curious about making the switch and any possible implications. A friend told me I should use a dino/syntetic blend for my first change before switching completely to synthetic. I am not sure that that is necessary.

Also, my previous car was an 94 850, which I loved very much. It was still running strong with 200K plus miles. The trans had a major leak and the interior was getting a bit ratty looking so it was time to move on.

I do have a couple of new Mann oil filters from the 850 that I can't use on the S70. I would like to offer them to a forum member (preferrably a long time member)for free. You just pay the shipping. I thought it was the least I could do after getting so much from this forum.

Great offer! In all fairness, I still have 6 filters and only 1 car that can use them :) I suggest posting your ZIP code and have a local come by and offer you a beer or coffee in exchange.

As to the switch to synthetic, go right ahead without any worries. Your engine will love you for it and you can change the interval to 5K for the next change and 7.5K miles from then on if you drive on highways instead of city streets.

There is no need to gradually wean the car from dino oil, just change the oil when the engine is still warm.

Thanks Klaus. I've read many of your posts. My zip is 19320. Anyone in the area is more than welcome to swing by and pick them up if they can use them.
