SRS light on 850

The SRS light came on when I started the 1993 850/automatic this AM. It had been sitting in the garage for five days previous. Low 40 degrees at most. Did have the evaporator replaced in September 09 and had no problems then. Any thoughts what the problem may be?

Contact reel was the problem. $220 for Volvo part plus a couple hours labor @ independant to fault trace and install. Light off now.

The OBD code shows the problem is drivers side air bag circuit. Need to test the contact real and air bag moduel with a special Volvo resistor test tool. Going to have my independant do it next week. This is too unnerving to fool with and safety is why we drive a volvo. It's about a $500 fix. Let you know the results next week.

Check your diagnostic box, the A-3 slot is for the SRS. Get the code and it will tell you what is wrong.

If the 1993 has two diagnostic boxes under the hood, check the codes in B-5 which is the SRS slot.

A-3 is for the ABS system No?

There is nothing for the SRS system other than a trip to the dealer and a platinum credit card.....

Suplemental Restrain System. Your airbags won't work while this little gem is lit up (pretty sure anyway) Could be anything.....17 years of banging around on the roads could have loosened up a connector, a plug could have fallen out (like the one on the passenger airbag that is upside down) or a contact could have corroded or the little computer module quit on you.

Take it to an authorized person to check out.
