VOLVO TO RECALL FUEL PUMP NHTSA #09V483000 V70-XC70 2001

I was researching an unrelated problem and found this recall notice 12/31/2009...

http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/recalls/results.cfm?rcl_id=09V483000&refurl=rss&searchtype=quicksearch&summary=true

According to the document, the recall is to start Jan 2010. Call Volvo @ 800-458-1552 for more information. Have your VIN# available.

I had this repair done by the dealer in Oct. 2008 for $502.00

Best regards!
Greg

VOLVO TO RECALL FUEL PUMP NHTSA #09V483000 V70-XC70 2001

Do you live in one of he states cited in the recall??? Did your unit developed the flange cracks???
There is something about about this recall that sounds like only 1/2 the story is being told. I would think the greater delta T is caused by engine heat and the warmer areas of the country may help precipate failure sooner......but if failure is due to metal heat cycling fatique...... the problem will be moving north with time (??).
    Thx.

      GREAT POST ! ! ! NHTSA #09V483000 V70-XC70 2001

Hi, I just discovered this failure mode in my car. A 2001 V70 station wagon, only 123,000 miles on it, always garaged and serviced, full books and records. The has an importation stamp on the original title of Port of Charleston, SC so I am covered there and I live in Dallas where it is impossible NOT to have heat cycling going on.

The southern most elements of Decima hit us last weekend and on Saturday we went from 68F to an overnight low of 15F. We were visiting my mother so the car was out in the weather Saturday night-Monday morning when it suddenly didn't start.

Lucky I found this recall because replacement can be over a grand depending on where you go. As I move through the process here, I will let you guys know how it goes. Thanks, Brickboard!

      GREAT POST ! ! ! NHTSA #09V483000 V70-XC70 2001

Yes. I am in Southern California and will be filing for the refund.

I argued this problem with the dealer until I was blue in the face, but they claimed they didn't know about the problem; even though I pointed out the Volvo extended warranty offered in neighboring states...unbelievable.

Is this the one at on top of the fuel tank? I had this done in November
2009. I am not sure that my 1998 V70 was covered anyway.....

          GREAT POST ! ! ! NHTSA #09V483000 V70-XC70 2001

It started with the 2001 cars and Southern states only. I guess northern folks would have to have the same defect to get Volvo to reimburse them.

            FYI: NHTSA #09V483000 V70-XC70 2001

Hello, I called 1 800 458-1552 today and the gal who took my call said that my 2002 V70 has an extended warranty (10 year/150,000 miles) on that part. She added that "the letter" wasn't going to go out for 60 to 90 days. Kira PS 1 866 637-3774 is the number for reimbursement. The first # is VolvoUSA in NJ K
