sensor failure in rear gate latch? V70-XC70 2005

Anyone else out there had failure of sensor in tailgate latch at 48 months or fewer? What an annoyance. Since the sensor is not sending the 'locked' signal, the top rear inside lamp stays lit! ( unplug the thing and throw it with diffuser into a box in the back to save the battery!) Also, believing it's got a door unlocked, the lamps fail to flash when I lock the car. I tried the latch when locked and it REALLY is locked!

Does this mean a new latch assembly? Costly? Warranty eligible?

Already? That car is practically new!

With keyfob in hand, try leaning on the closed hatch and see if the lock then works properly. On the older cars, when the rubber bumpers get old and hard, the locks sometimes do that.

You could move the strike plate reward 1/16th inch and see if that helps. Also check the latch itself. With the hatch open, close the lock using a round phillips screwdriver shaft. Listen for the second click and check the dash light or the remote lock and flashing lights.

Many thanks Klaus: Ill check it in the morning. Almost new is right: about 73000KM on it and another month of factory warranty!

If it is still under warranty, take it to the dealer and let them play with it. You paid for the warranty, do not be afraid to use it. Put the bulb back in before you go there :)
