Dash re-install issues- Major ones! 850

1995 850...non turbo.
I am having major problems following the dash installation- evap. installation.
1. My battery keeps draining. I can't keep a charge. It will boost and run just fine, but won't hold charge till next time I try to start. I looked for any cut wires, etc., obviously I found none.
2. The heater cables: I cannot, after dash installation, put the cables on (or really even see them) for the center pod- the direction of flow. It's two cables.
I think if I could remove the metal knee bolster, I could get to it...but I don't think that's possible after the dash is in...I don't remember the sequence. There MUST be a way to install those cables without dash removeal...I can't imagine that the dealer would take out a dash to put that climate control pod in.
So:
Battery drain and cable installation....I don't even want to bring up the other stuff until this is cleared up.
HELP!!!!

The knee bolster can be easily removed.

For your battery, check the voltage drain as you methodically pull/push each fuse. That will get you to the proper circuit. Probably the glovebox light.

Sorry to hear about the trouble after such an ambitious project. The battery might not be capable of a recharge. They exhaust after a surprisingly few number of full drains (2 or 3) Hope you find your completed circuit, mine have always been the back seat lights.

get a multimeter and find the short... It shouldn't be too hard to at least figure out the circuit thats the problem...

As to the battery thing, batteries can be either deep cycle or high-amperage. Car batteries have tons of plates that increase the contact area and allow for it to get 500+ amps to start the car (is that really necessary?) but they can't take recharging well. This is because the battery plates are really thin and crap out quick.

A deep cycle battery will have much less plates but they will be much thicker. You can't get nearly the amps out of them, but you can charge hundreds of times...

Either battery is purpose driven and doesn't take kindly to using it incorrectly. Think using a house vacuum to clean up a wet spill. Yeah you might get a couple of times out of it, but its life is severely cut down.
