Heater control illumination S40-V40 1996

Illumination for the three centre heater controls has gone and although I have pulled the knobs off I still cannot see how to remove this panel and I don't really know if the illumination is by fibre optic from somewhere else.Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in anticipation

Re: Heater control illumination S40-V40 1996

S/V 40 or 850?

If it's a typo and you mean a '96 850, then ECC or MCC?

Either has serviceable bulbs inside. The MCC has a couple of screws (to my recollection) under the knobs, then the front face (only) comes off. The ECC control unit itself needs to be first removed from the dash, then remove the screws on the sides and carefully pry the front cover off. Before doing either, make sure your Volvo dealer has the bulb(s) in stock because I doubt you'ld find them elsewhere.

John

The only choice of model in the dropbox when creating my message was S40-V40.The vehicle is a 1996 V40 Chassis YV1VW71213VF084823.Hope this throws some light on it.There are definitely no screws under the knobs.

Thanks for your input.

Regards

Clive

With a white plastic bone, or similar pri tool, gently pry out the trim on the climate control, it will come up and snap off, once off you will see the phillips screws that hold the unit in place on the console, you might want to pop the radio out for some room for the panel to drop down when you unscrew it.
