Door Stuck closed V70-XC70 2000

Hi Folks,
My daughters 2000 V70XC drivers side door will not open with either inside or outside door handle. The lock button does cycle up an down with the power lock switch. When she first came to me the door would not close. I helped her secure it closed with a nylon strap as she was "in a hurry, can't work on it now" mode. When she returned home "the boyfriend" "helped" get it closed but, it no longer opens from either side of the door. Does anyone have any experience here? Is the mechanism the same as my '98 V70 GLT ? Has anyone had any luck getting the trim panel off with the door closed ?

Thanks in advance,
John

Hello, This is not for the faint of heart. Most of the time I can pry on the front side of the plastic lock where the small piece of the release is, but it does get broken inside the lock enclosure cover. The rear tailgate is even worse. First, recline seat all the way down and lower to its lowest position. second, remove plastic collar for door handle, remove small bueaty panel and remove the torx 25 screw, carefully pry up the door switch, don't disconnect yet. third, remove black window corner panel then lower window, pull up on door panel edge, you might need to use some force. after panel is loose from top of door there is a triangle piece of black plastic that needs to be removed. Now you can see the door latch, roll the window back up, at the bottom right is the main part of the lock, try releasing all lock parts by hand inside the door. if that doesn't work the lower part of the door lock needs to be broken in order to release the door. I would like to punch the designer of that POS! Make sure you have a replacement handy. If I were you and have never done one I would practice on one from a junk yard with door panel allready removed and door shut. Good luck.

We don't know what the boyfriend did to close the door. Too bad he 'fixed' it!

It is the same as the 1998 and I don't know if you can remove the panel without opening the door. A little tough with the panel pressed against the sill.

You will need a new lock.

      Klaus,

How does the lock fail ? Any chance of fishing around in the door and hooking the mechanism to trip the latch ?

If the OP can get the top of the door panel pulled back a little, and with very small hands, reach the under side of the lock... forget it. This is a tough one.

The lock internals have plastic parts and do not work with stress. Problem is getting the panel off to remove the lock.

Its likely I'm wrong, but can you take off the panel of the B-post and figure out where the lock latches? Perhaps you can see where it holds and push it back so you can open the door.
