Door Stuck closed V70-XC70 2000

Hi Folks,
My daughters 2000 V70XC drivers side door will not open with either inside or outside door handle. The lock button does cycle up an down with the power lock switch. When she first came to me the door would not close. I helped her secure it closed with a nylon strap as she was "in a hurry, can't work on it now" mode. When she returned home "the boyfriend" "helped" get it closed but, it no longer opens from either side of the door. Does anyone have any experience here? Is the mechanism the same as my '98 V70 GLT ? Has anyone had any luck getting the trim panel off with the door closed ?
