P2108 TAC Performance Module Error V70-XC70 2004

Mary went out to go to work. Backed her '04 V70 2.5T out, stopped, pulled up, shut it off, got in my car and left. She said that there was a message that said 'Poor Engine Performance' and the car didn't want to go. Also, yesterday it "did something" and acted sluggish.

Checking for codes I get P2108 which sounds like an error with the throttle control/throttle body. Besides cleaning the connector and the throttle body, any ideas ? Do I have to remove the throttle body to clean it ? Will I damage the drive mechanism if I turn the throttle plate by hand ?

I see someone had a similar code with a XC70 in January. He had 110,000 miles on his car. This car has 111,000 miles.

Thank God it is warming up.

Greg

I took the throttle body off, inspected and cleaned it inside and out, electrical and mechanical, and did not find anything wrong with it. Drove the car and it seems to respond pretty promptly to requests for more coal. No codes were set or pending when I got home.

    Very dissatisfying.

I don't like the electronic throttles, but it seems a cleaning is all it needed. Yeah you didn't get the satisfaction of knowing its fixed like you would if you replaced a part, but it could be worse, you might have had to get a new ETM...

You also might want to consider a new air filter if it hasn't been changed lately.

That's a good thing! It was probably just dirt, which you got rid of. At least you know the plastic gears aren't worn and there is nothing else visibly wrong.

      You done good,

    Read the entire posting:

Sounds like more plastic parts that could fail when super cold, or leaking antifreeze????

It looks like your options as to cause are dirty throttle body (extremely likely) rusted connection (little bit likely) and a bad throttle body (not that likely).

Best bet is to pull off the throttle body and clean it very well. Then give all the moving parts a nice lube job. Moving the throttle plate shouldn't damage anything.
