Hello,

I need to change the timing belt on the new-to-me '89 V70. Most places list kits for V70s after a certain engine serial number. Where can I find this serial number?
Any advice on changing the belt? I've done this on 240s and 940s.

On a different note, I looked on the roof, and I don't see a way to mount
a roofrack. Is there a way?

The info on my sticker is not readable, all worn off. Where else can I get the engine serial #?

If you mean roof rails that run from front to back and are permanent, the install requires the remvoal of the trim that is part of the rain rail. A one section piece on your car that will be needed to be cut into sections to allow the rails to be bolted into place.

The removable racks, from 1993-2000, are held on with holes in the B and C pillars.

what you need to know is if your car has a mechanical vs a hydraulic tensioner. Late build '98 70 series (April'08 and later) came with a mechanical tensioner.

Remove the t-belt cover and you can see what you got.

Mine has a 05/97 build date, so that too confirms it takes the earlier setup.

Hello, That being the case, do a search on hydraulic tensioners and read about compressing them slowly. I've never had one but a table vise or large C clamp is often mentioned. I put my engine ser. number on a sticker in the glove box lid. I don't trust stickers under the hood. Kira
