driving without instrument cluster? 850

Ok, probably a silly question. I found the means to pull my instrument cluster out of my 97-850 for a non responsive odometer. The smaller gear has a broken tooth. New gears are on order. Should I leave the vehicle parked until I replace the gears? My dealer offered to read the mileage from the ODBII port at no charge, so I can turn the odometer again to the correct mileage.
The issue is the dealer is 30 miles away. I don't want to mess with the cluster too much, put it back and only to pull it again to adjust the mileage once I get the reading.

Your thoughts on this?

You will have to plug it in to get the mileage read anyway. It is not a difficult task, in your case don't bother to put the screws back in, just plug in the cluster.

If you have a turbo, be careful with the vacuum hose for the boost gauge. You won't need it for tha gauge, but the vacuum leak will mess up other sensors.
