Klaus - If the problem occurs on level ground, it could be the problem that I had on my 850.
I checked the brake switch and the shift lock, then I took the console out and observed how a white shaft pressed down when the button on the shift lever is depressed.
What I found was that the shaft did not come down far enough to unlock the shift lever. Since the shaft was not damaged, I figured that the lever must have gotten longer!
The shift lever is just pressed on to its shaft.
I found that the lever had risen a bit and pulling on the button in the shift Knob did not unlock the lever from park.
I gave it a couple of firm smacks on the top of it and the problem was gone. Hit it squarely on the top, in line with the shaft.
This happened two summers ago and I have had no problems since.
