SRS warning msg, odd circumstances V70-XC70 2004

Spouse has had this '04 V70 for just a couple of weeks; 2-300 miles over the 113K it had when wwe got it. Today, after shopping, started it up, moved slowly forward, and the wipers self-actuated while the car refused to continue moving. Did that 2x on the way home. Dash now shows SRS-seatbelt waarning, "URGENT SERVICE". Still over 100 miles to dealer, but will hope the car makes it there Monday.
No engine codes or transmission codes stored or pending, natch.
Any suggestions, SWAGS re diagnoses, or warnings will be much appreciated.
TIA
Bru

I would believe you have a short which triggered the wipers and the SRS module. Only a dealer or a very good PC interface program can turn off the SRS.

While at the dealer, ask to have all of the other systems cleared; like the seats and ECC.

      Klaus:

Are you saying that some of the items can be eliminated from the computer control, such as climate control etc.? It appears as if most of the car is in some way being monitored by the computer, things it really does not need to know for safety.

Have never owned such a complex machine until I got my XC 70

Thanks for your time and information.

Climate control has its own computer. There are a lot of parts that need to know the VIN before it will talk with the ECU, the ECC is not one of those. Volvo did this to help the dealers regain control of the maintenance, and, it is not just Volvo.

All of these computers store their own codes in their own memory. Removing the electrical source will not clear codes in these modules (SRS, ECC, seats, etc.). Most generic scanners cannot read these computers, just the ECU and tranny.

      Thanks, Klaus.
Got it to the dealer this morning--same dealer had sold to original owner and done most of the maintenance. Printed out service records and it turned out both problems had been addressed there within past year, including replacement of a couple of heart-stoppingly expensive modules. Couple hours and a couple of cups of their pretty decent coffee later, they had cleaned all the contacts, re-installed the modules, tested, and washed the car. No charge.
