98xc P0442 V70-XC70

Just my luck...having just packed up for an upcoming move (only 18 miles away) I have no tools easily accessible and of course P0442 decided to show its face last night while I left my car idle at a local corner store.

Plan on digging a few tools out but just wanted to see what is the more likely culprit, bad gas cap, or is it the J hose on the evap cannister? Didn't want to drop the cash on a gas cap just to find its not needed and vice versa.

BTW having a CEL staring at you is very annoying ;-) - maybe its just me though.

Steve

Mine was at the tank. On top of tank is a rollover valve, has rubber
hose on in and out. Both hose's have went bad in the past year.

That error message has nothing to do with drivability. Wait until you get home, then follow 'thesameguy's advice. My 1998 had the same problem with a cracked vacuum hose by the fuel filter - same fix, a 4in piece of fuel line and all is well.

Mine was a 3" rubber coupler between a plastic line and a doohickey by the fuel filter... see my thread a couple posts down. Used a short length of 1/4" fuel injection line (total overkill, emissions hose is fine), $0.50.

Thanks Gents, will get some hose tonight. I dug out the necessary tools and will tackle this tomorrow.
