    rough idle then crank ok but no start 850

    UPDATE: OK went back to car and charged battery. Getting run down trying to start. Had brother turn over ignition to II poistion DID NOT hear Humming noise from IAC- Unplugged top hose from IAC engine started at least with rough idle.

    Can someone tell me if the IAC is "bad" because it is not humming! Could it be something upstream -like the main fuel pump relay? I hate to buy an IAC they are a little pricey.

    Thanks-740gt

      Not sure if the IAC should be humming in position II, but I would definitely take it out and give it a good cleaning -- run some carb cleaner through it until the valve turns freely when you give it a quick twist with your wrist. Wouldn't hurt to check the electrical connection while you're at it.

        Symptoms-rough idle-then no start-
        NO HUMMING NOISE.....
        Removed top hose from IAC- car started rough idle.

        OK-Here is what I did. I purchased a tune up kit from BCP Groton $130 on sale.
        Have not installed yet.

        Purchased a used Idle Air Control (IAC) $25 pulled from 95 850 glt
        Purchased a used Fuel Injection Relay AKA (Main Fuel Relay) $15 same car.
        {PS-This is located directly in front of IAC under radiator cowl lip. Mine was gray in color and rectangular. It slides out and you unplug it.}
        A can of carb cleaner $2.50
        Clamp Connectors 1 1/4"(2) $2.50

        Removed old parts. Cleaned (IAC) thoroughly so the unit inside moves. PS Also sprayed carb cleaner into throttle body.

        Replaced parts.

        Turned ignition to II position heard HUMMING NOISE...

        Started car- car runs like a DREAM

        Hope this helps someone with same problem-easiest fix I have ever done and also one of the cheapest.
