Front Strut Spring Retaining Cup Replacement And Strut Cartridge_ HELP 850 1995

Hey Guys,

My 1995 850 turbo is in the shop to have the spring retention cup for the passenger sider strut replaced ( apparently a common problem, i am told).

Anyhow , here my question- since they in order to replace this part the front strut unit will have to be pulled anyhow - Should I have them install a new strut cartridge??

The dealer cost of the new right strut is $115 and there would be no additionalcost to the labor already required to replace the spring retainer.

The dealer's service manager sais that he has seen very few strut failures on the 850 so is neutral on any recommendation.

My concern is that when the car was still under warranty the left side strut had to be replaced due to failure- so it does happen occasionally.

BTW- my car is the 1995 850 turbo and has about 57,000 miles on it.

Thanks!

    I wouldn't 850 1995

That said, if I were going to replace the struts/shocks I would replace all four at the same time. I replaced mine at 90k miles with Bilsteins, there wasn't much damping left in the original strouts/shocks. But then I prefer a firm ride (i.e. better controlled) compared to a cushy ride.
