Aerial Down Switch Kit - PN 9204656 S70 1998

Has anyone installed this on their 1998 S70? I happen to see this kit at Borton Volvo's website.

"New accessory! - Aerial Down Switch Kit S70 or C70. If you've ever wanted to continue listening to the radio while in the car wash or other situation or you're listening to a CD and don't want the antenna up - this is for you. Reg. 42.43 'Net 28.95. (OEM accessory)"

Yep, got it for $32 or so with shipping. It's a matching switch with an antenna icon on it that has a light that is controlled by the dash dimmer along with all the other switches. It also plugs right into the head unit wiring harness so no splicing is required. Total installation time - under ten minutes.

I'm now listening to less NPR and more CD's with the antenna down just because I can...

Thanks for the info, Dave. Do you happen to have pictures/instructions to do this simple install? Thanks.

The typical Volvo instructions come with the kit. It's a four or five step procedure with diagrams. Here's what I remember:

-Pop the blank cover where you want the new switch to go.

-Pull the radio and disconnect the wiring harness (got your code?).

-Snake the supplied wiring harness extension from the radio opening behind the dash to the new switch location.

-Connect the switch to the harness and click into place.

-Connect the wiring harness extension between the radio and original harness.

-Push in the radio and enter your code.

-Listen to music while going through the local car wash (assuming that like me you subject your car to such treatment)...

Re: Aerial Down Switch Kit - PN 9204656 S70 1998

I installed a switch I bought at the local electronics store for about $3.00. I made a hole in one of the blanks on the left of the steering wheel to accept the small black plastic switch I bought. I then cut the antenna wire and inserted my switch into the cut (electrically speaking). Works just fine. Before I did all of this I went to my dealer's parts counter and asked if there wasn't anything like that from OEM. They said no, so I went with the $3.00 solution. It's nice to know that I can now replace it if I want the OEM look.

    Thanks.
