After replacing the upper rad hose in my 2000 V70 XC SE, I was test running the engine looking for leaks under the hood when I noticed a lot of excess vibration from the serpentine belt pulley closest to the right front of the car.

I was wondering what this pulley does? It seems to be attached to a small housing with some electrical connector on it. Do they parts frequently go on cars with more than 100K on the them? Hopefully it is something I can replace and the part is not too expensive!

The top gizmo is the alternator, and it should not vibrate - ever.

It's a square looking unit with a big pulley on it. I thought it might be a PS pump as it has what looks like a fluid line but there's also a black electrical contact on top so I'm really not sure.

I really don't think it's an alternator as it doesn't have the typical slots to help cool the windings, but I could be wrong.
