ANSWER '96 850 turbo wagon 5 cylinder V70-XC70 1996

The V90 6 cyl also had issues caused by people using the wrong coolant and winding up with porous blocks and leaking head gaskets. Once a 6 cyl has over heated, you don't want it.

As to the 5 cyls, I have yet to see one with a gasket failure that was a design flaw. Usually from a leaking coolant system or really cheap antifreeze, or using regular gasoline that creates too much heat in the cylinder.

While the 5 cyl is a pain to repl the gasket, if that is all that is wrong with it then it is a 3-5 day DIY fix. The heads seldom warp. A refurbished can be purchased from a couple of firms, but I have heard about problems with turbo cars because of valve springs - only those that then add a G19 turbo :)

At least the rings and block seem to last forever, turbo or NA.
