Door lock V70-XC70 1998

Ok, I've been parking the V70 in the driveway for the last few days instead of the garage. In the morning when I unlock all the doors, the left rear fails to unlock...you can see a tiny movement on the lock knob but thats all. As the day/car warms up the lock works fine. Before I take the door apart, anyone else experience the same problem and if so what fix was implemented.

    Re: Door lock V70-XC70 1998

The same door lock on our 98 V70 just quit working. It will lock, using the remote or driver's lock/unlock button, but will not unlock. Is it repairable without total replacement? My wife said it happened when our daughter was trying to open the locked door using the door handle, while my wife was trying to unlock it using the drivers lock/unlock button. Not sure if this is the cause, but it's the second time the failure has occurred under these circumstances. The first incident was covered under warranty, this one is not.

Anyone have advice on how to remove a rear passenger door panel on a V70 and what parts may be needed for repair of lock? I would really like for this V70 to hang around long enough to be my daughter's first car, say another 6 years, so I guess I'd better get familiar with making these hopefully minor repairs.

    Thanks

Thanks, I have removed the driver's door panel..was very easy so I'm sure the rear is just as easy. If I decide to do the replacement myself, I'll post panel removal instructions.

        Re: Door lock V70-XC70 1998

I have a '98 V70 T5 with a door panel problem. A while ago, a passenger leaving the right front seat closed the door onto the seat belt buckle. I heard the crunch and saw the resulting dent in the door panel. I still see the dent, and am now wondering what to do about it. My car is off the standard warranty, but I do have an extended plan. From what I read, the panel removal shouldn't be too difficult if one knows where to begin and is fore-armed on what to expect. Any suggestions? Any similar experiences? Thanks! BD

I have not had the ocassion to remove the rear panel, but have removed the front. It took about 15 minutes/just be careful not to break any of the plastic stuff. there was a "hidden" screw in the recessed door pull, lift up the plastic cover for access. You must carefully pry out the plastic moulding around the door handle. the rest is mostly secured by nylon push clips behind the panel. Carefully pull the panel away from the door frame--they snap out.

The lock is toast. Have replaced hundreds. They fail in all weather, not just cold. Seperate parts not available, the whole lock mechanism needs to be replaced. Had 1 car where 3 of 4 locks failed. Was back within 2 weeks for the 4th. Car still under warranty?

If the lock is "failed", why does this problem routinely appear in below freezing temps and GO AWAY when the temp rises above freezing. It sounds like water getting into the mechanism and freezing up. This is what I've been told by Volvo dealer.

      Re: Door lock V70-XC70 1998

Thanks for the info. The car does have the VIP warranty in effect. Will probably call dealer for replacement; however, I always hate to take a car to a shop for r&r of something like a door panel...my past experiences show that some techs are very careful and some not..never know which one will work on my car and usually get the car back with other broken plastic or rattles from the job. Any idea how much the lock mechanism costs?

      Thanks

Boy is this a common problem. My brick does the same thing and the gas tank door is affected as well. Poor design. This from a car made for the winter?!

It'll be interesting to see what the fix is. How about a TSB anyone?
