How to remove fuel pump electrical connector on 850 850

Replacing fuel pump and filter. I got the old one out fine -- except I don't see how/where to disconnect the red and black electrical connecting wires that attach to the top of the unit. Being cautious, don't want to damage anything by pulling -- or do I need to cut and splice them to the new unit?

Don't cut! Follow the wires, there is a connector close to the shock tower. The wire may be zip tied, which you have to cut off to get the wiring out with the pump.

The yellow banded fuel hose is the one that goes to the injectors.

How to remove fuel pump electrical connector on 850 850

Went and got another unit from a boneyard and didn't cut wires this time! We live and learn. Sorry about the shocker!! I opened about five fuel pump covers in the junkyard and found a pump that looked VERY recently installed (yippee!) ... and I had no trouble at all turning the plastic top that secures the pump ... but when I get home the one on my car is the original and it is so tight it appears to never have been serviced. Any tips on how to get that thing started turning? I douosed the plastic screw with liquid wrench last night hoping that might help when I get back at it today.

I used the handle end of a pair of plyers, inserted them into the plastic at 180 degrees and then turned the plastic. Liquid wrench should not work, it is a rubber gasket.

When putting the plastic bungee back on, do not over tighten else the gasket will deform and cause a leak.

Too late Klaus ... I cut 'em. I got it from a car someone in the neighborhood was parting out, and he wasn't there when I got the fuel pump, only his son who knew about as much about the procedure as I did. Maybe I can go to a junkyard and find a donor and get the wire and the top part? Would it be workable to replace the top of the fuel pump with fuel pump top from another donor? Jeez ...
