Best Pads? V70-XC70 2003

Thinking about getting new brake pads for wife`s XC70....replaced pads/rotors all around last summer but drove the car recently & found a little too much fade for my liking.
Wife commutes 100 miles daily 5 days/week & half that is city traffic. What pads would you recommend? Would like something that will deliver in those "panic stop" situations in city traffic or rural driving when a deer jumps out of the ditch.
Thanks,
Rich

IMHO - Volvo cares a great deal about safety - I think that their pads reflect that.

Having read this board and Volvospeed for 11 years, brake issues are one of the most frequent complaints.

Many times the poster said Volvo pads solved their problem.

Do you use Volvo pads when you replaced them?

Disk brakes should have minimal fade regardless of use or thickness. Hard pads require hot rotors to be good for stopping, so 'race' pads are out for normal driving.

Measure your pads, at least pull a wheel and take a guess on the remaining material. Your problem just might be old brake fluid and it is starting to 'boil'.

I don't have any experience with the "newer" V70's, but I have had great success with using OEM pads on my 240 and 850. They last a long time, no noise, quick stops. Downside is they are dusty! IMHO - Pads are cheap, it is worth spending a little more on them.

What make of pads are installed??
WE went back to OEM (front and rear)on my wife's 2003 XC. In general they seem to perform the best with a lot of in town driving and the ocasional highway panic stops. Last I was aware the rear brakes provide around 20-25% (?) of the cars braking capacity...... so the "cheap" rear brakes could degrade any performance gains of the
    performance front brakes....

I use the napa for the front. You are mistaken. The quality of the brakes is mostly wear not stopping. Since the rear brakes don't really wear much the cheap ones last fairly long in the rear. The fronts on these cars since they are heavy cars go quickly.

No one could be stopping shorter than my heavy foot son

I always changed my front pads with a ceramic or organic ceramic. Last really long never any squeal. Get about 40-50 K on them. The oem usually on lasted only 20-30k

some will say that they are not oem and will produce too much heat for the rotor. I have been using for years and never a problem.

I usually change my rotors every 2 brake changes.

The backs I used the cheapest pad I can find.
