Needs Advice C70 1999

Hi again fellow Volvo owners,

I need some advice on how to handle the problem I'm having at my dealer. This is the 3rd time I took in my car to have the trunk lock looked at. As I have stated in past BrickBoard messages, the trunk will not open the first time I either pull the trunk release switch on the driver's side or the trunk release on the remote. It only opens after the 2nd or 3rd time I release it. This occurs everytime I drive the car and then stop.

The technician at the dealer said that the problem is linked with the IPD spoiler that I installed on the car and that the spoiler is weighing down on the trunk. He said this is the reason why the trunk is relocking itself. Even though this is a possibility, I've had the spoiler ever since I bought my car 2 years ago and there has never been a problem until now. I also stated that if the weight of the spoiler is the case, then why does the trunk open after the 2nd or 3rd time, but never on the first try??

I just picked up my car today (Friday) and now the trunk does not even open at all on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd...and ### tries. The only way I can open the trunk is if I stand right by the trunk with my remote and pull the trunk up while the trunk mechanism is clicking. Even if I pull on the trunk release switch on the driver's door, it will be too late to walk to the trunk and open it.

I talked to the service manager and he just kept on saying that it was the spoiler and the only way he would fix it would be if I removed the spoiler (which is screwed on) and the problem occurs. That's a joke. I am 100% sure that it is the locking mechanism and not the spoiler.

Are there any other ways that I can do to resolve this problem?? I want to call to a higher authority figure, but all the service manager gave me was the number to VOLVO customer service. Maybe that is enough...but I don't know. I'm thinking about taking it to another dealer to get a second opinion.

So please...I'm in desperate need for any info...a number...who to call...anything??

Thanks for all your help!!

Re: Needs Advice C70 1999

Test it with the trunk opened but then lock the latch using a screwdriver, then see if the latch unlocks with the remote as it should (might take 2 tries if it's the dual stage type where one click unlocks the drivers door only and the second click unlocks the others). That way, it'll have nothing to do with the weight of the spoiler. If it does then unlock as it should (like if the dealer is right), then I'd suggest replacing your trunk shocks with the HD type made by Volvo for cars with spoilers (not sure about C70s though?). When adding the OEM Volvo rear spoiler to an S70 (never installed on on a C70), Volvo then supplies HD replacement trunk shocks to handle the added weight included with the rear spoiler kit.

Re: Needs Advice V70-XC70 1998

Simple. Take off a spoiler and then get the dealer to fix the trunk.
