Those Damm Radio Lights S70 1998

I tried fixing the station selection lights (buttons 1-2-3) and now I have three lights are out. I give up between the lights and that it doesn't play cd-r. Is if worth trading it in for a re-furb at the dealer ? How much where some of you charged ? Does the SC-901 (C-70) radio fit ? Or do I go aftermarket ?

Well, I had two lights out and decided to attempt a repair as well, now i too, have three lights out, i'm guessing they're all in a circuit and removing the one i did made the rest not work. If anyone has any idea on this, I'd be more than interested to know.

I went to Radio Shack and bought the small light that seems to fit the closest. It's a little too big, but if it doesn't work, all I've lost is about $1.34. I'm working on it now, but it's seeming to get more difficult than usual.

Does anyone know about the re-furb units? My car is out of warranty... how much will I have to pay?

    Thanks,

Scott, I dont know about replacing the bulbs, but what some here on the BB do to stop them from burning out is to just keep them at about 75% brightness. On mine I keep the dash lights at about 30% brightness, because here in the New York City Metro Area there is so much light from the outside of the car at night....I can just about see everything with out any dash lights at all.

My dealer replaced the entire 816 unit rather than replace the bulbs! Had 49k on the clock at the time though, so can you say Warranty?

I now keep the lights a little dimmer inside. I was always a BRIGHT IS BETTER kind of guy, despite the same NYC lighting previously mentioned.

I think I read once that you should keep interior lights as dim as possible because it's easier on your eyes. Kinda like VW's theory behind blue/red lighting instead of green and orange. I dunno. wateva.

Well, If I ever do find a way to replace those that are lost already, I'll be sure to keep it dim, I usually have them all the way up. Thanks for the tip.

Someone could make a million if they could make an L.E.D. replacement for lights. Kind of like truck lights but for the inside. I guess you could do it your self if you found out the specs and went to Radio Shack.
