Why you shouldn't remove the MAF screen ALL

Supposedly, the MAF screen increases turbulence, which also decreases flow speed, which decreases performance. Which is why some on this board have advocated this modification. And why Eastern Aerospace has detailed instructions with pictures on how to remove this component.

However, when I contacted K&N, Volvo, Garrett and local modification shops that have the fastest cars in Canada, they are said exactly the same thing. DO NOT TOUCH IT!!! You will LOSE power!

The MAF screen actually STRAIGHTENS the air flow. As air travels through a filter and in the case of those with air fliter boxes, goes from a large box to a relatively smaller tube, the air becomes very turbulent. This MAF screen acts in such a way that as the air travels through it, the air flow actually loses turbulence and straightens out.

Removal of the MAF screen also means the loss of a very important guard against ingestion of filter/debris and mechanical protection for the MAF sensor.

It seems the more research I do, the less credible Eastern Aerospace becomes. Am I the only one that is noticing this? Like I have said before, EA has a number of great parts and upgrades. But they have quite a number of glaring lies that greatly reduce their credibility if one takes the time to do research.

Re: Why you shouldn't remove the MAF screen ALL

Lets see, Volvo has SGI super computers for doing compuational fluid

dynamics calculations (for calculating air flow, crash simulations,

etc).

Eastern has Microsoft Front Page for creating a web site.

Hmmm.....

Re: Why you shouldn't remove the MAF screen ALL

Exactly!!! So why are they making these claims? Why can't they just admit that many of their products will improve performance but not in those ridiculous amounts?

I'm not trashin' them because they don't have the ability to do the necessary measurements, but that they are obviously lying about the performance improvements and other recommended modifications that decrease performance as well as damaging or decreasing the logevity of many parts.

Re: EA ALL

No need to research what Eastern Aerospace sells. Just take a look at some of those preposterous HP gains for simple mods like an air filter swap and even an idiot can begin to see the lack of credibility.

I'd also say to leave that screen alone as it does no harm. Removing it can't possibly add HP and without it, you increase the odds of the MAF sensors very delicate filaments being damaged by a piece of dirt if anything went past the air filter. I wouldn't take that risk with my car.
