no low beams!!??!! V70-XC70 1998

1998 V70 GLT, some 219,000 miles...

No low beams!? I went for an inspection sticker and failed due to no low beams....the reputable local mechanic said he checked it out quickly and he found no power going to the fuses....
But no fuses blown at all! All OK!

#5 headlights in MAIN
#21 & 22 low beams in supplementarty
#26 switch.

The high beams will only work pulling back on the nlever on left of steering column- I think(?) And if you push away they stay engaged, right??

Any suggestions, other than no night driving!!??

Mike

The dash switch failed twice on my '98 S70 in the short time that I had it, both times at night. If the low beams don't work, try pushing on the switch while it's set to the correct position and see if they come on. If so, you have a bad switch. (At least that's how I was able to diagnose it...and how I got home.) It's easy enough to replace if that's the culprit.

If there is no power going to the fuses, you need to check out the dash switch. Turn the parking lights on and see if the instrument cluster lights up. Then pull on the highbeam switch and see if there is light, blue light also comes on. No, pushing the stalk does not put it in high beam mode. On your car pulling on the stalk will leave on the high beams IF the headlights are turned on.

If you think the headlight switch is OK, then you need to check the relay.
