2008 S80 T6 Multiple dash warning lights on S80

I have a 2008 S80 T6 with 91k miles. Today, all of a sudden, the Generator warning light came on then a few seconds later many other warning lights came on including ABS, Traction control, and airbag. The car seemed to work fine and I got it home with no problem. Any ideas as to what the source of this seemingly horrible condition can be?
Thanks.

Check the battery cables for corrosion and the battery itself for 12.4V. Make sure that the wires from the alternator are intact and tight.

      Hi Klaus,
Thanks. Just checked. Neg terminal had some surface corrosion which I cleaned, then reconnected and started car. Voltage at battery terminals with engine running is 9.7v. Sounds like the alternator is bad? I wouldn't think a car with <100k would have a bad alternator. Is there a way to isolate it or should I just go for it and replace the alternator?
I'm putting a charge on the battery now and will retest in about an hour.

I would also be surprised that the voltage regulator/brushes would be bad. Check the wiring from the alternator to the + battery post.

You could verify the alternator voltage by putting the plus terminal of the multimeter on the large bolt in the back of the alternator and grounding the other lead.

Removing the black plastic rear cover on the alternator will expost the regulator. Much easier to change out than the entire alternator.

I can hardly see the alternator under the intakes. Looks like I need to remove the intakes to get at the wiring or regulator cover, no? Also, I don't see any belt but a "decoupler" at the front end. What is that and how does it get it's drive?
          Thank you.

Wow! Is that buried! One of the reasons I like my 1996. I just took a look at an S80 on Ebay so I could see the engine bay. Lots of luck with that one!

Thanks. I think I just need to remove the intake manifold. Is there a way to isolate between the voltage regulator or alternator as the problem?

                If your battery won't charge:

I'm pretty sure my battery is good since I can charge it up and start the car multiple times. I do have a battery from my boat that I am going to try just to eliminate that.

Ok, so I got the alternator out and pulled out the regulator module. Sure enough one of the brushes was melted and stuck back in the housing. No one sells the regulator in my area so I got a rebuilt alternator for $200 from advance auto. It went in very easily (too easily) and I got everything back together. Fired it up and voltage at battery is now 14vdc.
Now I'm seeing a slight coolant leak from the connector just to the top of the intake manifold. I can't figure out how to remove the connector, but that's tonight's project.
It's dripping right onto the alternator so I'm suspecting that leak may have toasted the previous inhabitant.

Any idea on how to remove that coolant connector? There seems to be 4 white tabs under the lip.

                    Thanks.

Fought with the connector and ended up getting it off. The plastic outer housing had broken off and you need to pull up on that to get the fitting off the nipple. This poorly designed part is $35 at local stealer, so I decided to just cut the connector off near the nipple and use a short piece of rubber hose with hose clamps on each end. IMHO it's a better solution that what was originally there. This one has no chance of leaking.

Such a simple car! You might need to come at it from below.

First make sure the belt is turning.

Unless the alternator is making a lot of grumbling/howling noises, it is usually the voltage regulator. Mute point if you can't get to it!
