Hello, my 2000 S40 Volvo seem to release a whole lot of brake dust when of couse braking. As soon as I cleaned the car, the rims look great. But as soon as I drive the car for a quick ride, there is brake dust already on the rims. Never saw a car that released so much brake dust. I have an understanding that semi-metalic brakes release less brake dust than the Volvo manufacture brakes. Question 1, do you recommend semi-metalic brakes, and 2nd question, and more important than the first question, do they sell semi-metalic for the s40 yet.

It helps to put a coat of wax (or two) on the rims. It won't reduce the amount of dust, but it makes cleaning them off much easier,just sponge and water.

You wouldn't want or need to use a strong chemical cleaner on them after you do this.

Try EBC's "Green Stuff" brake pads. A friend of mine uses them on his SAAB 9-5 Aero and he is very satisfied both with their performance and the decrease in brake dust.

I can certify that EBC green stuff brakes are DUSTLESS as I own the in my VW GTI VR6 for the last 8 months. If you are looking to keep your wheels clean for as long as two weeks these are your pads. Braking is even better than stock brakes in my case. I have the part # for the fronts which are the only one available right now for the S40 which I will change soon on my wife s car. I personally don't mind the brake dust I think it makes the vehicle look alot more racyer. But there are times when time does not allow to clean them for a while and wehn you've got brake dust really stuck to the wheels I use WD40 to spray them down and loosen the dust. I use soapy water and a rag to clean them off, then finish it off with a spray from the waterhose.

I also have the same problem. It seem like I'm cleaning my wheels every 2 days. Unfortunately, the Volvo oem pads (organic type) have better braking ability than the semi-metallic.

I was thinking more along the lines of brake dust covers. Does any know if they are available for the x40.

don't know if they are available, but from what I understand they aren't a good idea, they tend to help trap heat and reduce the cooling efficieny of the brakes, this could lead to longer stops or even brake failure.

Go to www.easternaerospace.com they have them there.

DavoS4o, did you buy the brakes from there? If so, how are they? Any major difference?

I didn't buy any but i was thinking about buying some for the rear brakes when they wear out
