Rear Bumper Protector V70-XC70 98

I have a '98 V70 and the top of the rear bumper is getting more than its fair share of scratches from loading and unloading. I have noticed that the AWD models have a grey cover made of a rubber-like material. Does anyone know if this item can be purchased separately to retrofit on a standard V70? If so, any recommendations for a parts source for a reasonable cost?

Thanks.

Check out Subaru and Saab aftermarket stuff. Also VW Passat (vwvortex.com is good source). There are several aftermarket rubber stick on covers that would work.

Also, 3M makes clear "tape" similar to what's on the front edge of your rear fenders to prevent rock chips.

Let me know what you find, I'm thinking of hte same thing.

(that cloth thing probably wouldn't last, imho)

I had the clear 3m tape installed at the dealer when I bought the car. It works great, I wish I had it on the front of the hood to prevent rock chips. They also make headlight covers.

Re: Rear Bumper Protector ALL 1995

        Hi,

Could you be a little more specific about what you had done. I just moved to Boston with my 960 and it has the painted plastic bumpers which are getting scratched up on the corners as people sideswipe me in close parking situations. Is this covering something that would help that? Is there anything else that can? I have seen 850s with the gray plastic bumpers that don't show scrapes. Is that something I can get on my 960? Any guesses on price?

        Thanks,

        Chris

Re: Rear Bumper Protector V70-XC70 1999

          Chris,

It's a precut clear plastic piece for the top of the bumper. I don't know if they have any for the corners although thats a good idea, mine has a scrape too. I believe 3M makes the tape(it's actually a lot thicker than that). If you look closely at a V70, you'll see it on the leading edge of the rear fenders. Check with a truck accessory shop, it seems more popular on those kinds of vehicles. I think you can get a do it yourself kit to cut and apply where you want.

Good luck, Boston is a horrible city to drive in,

          Mark

I happened to be near the dealer today and found out that Volvo has an aftermarket rubber bumper protector/cover. Their part # is 9491400 and I was given a price of about $81.00. I'm going to do a little shopping around and see if I can save some $ by mail order.

Not sure about the cover, but Volvo sells a flexible fabric-type protector that has worked well for us -- our bumper is subjected to frequent dog toenails, and the cover has totally protected it. It came with prefitted straps that you use to secure it to the rear anchors. It flips into the cargo area or can be detached and stowed away inside the storage compartment if you're a neatnik.
