Well with work and the commute and all I've had little chance to really tangle with somebody in quite a while. Sure, there are the occasional run-ins with rice rockets and the like, but for the most part it's been pretty tame since graduating. Last week, however, I was heading down 280S, coming out of San Francisco and heading towards Stanford to meet the GF, around 9:15pm or so, when a riced-out Integra Type-R rolls up alongside, about 70mph. If you're wondering how I figured it was a real Type-R, it was the correct shade of yellow, had the proper spoiler, and the kicker was that it had the Type-R rims, which are not easy for the average ricer to slap on his Integra LS since the Type-R rims are 5-bolts and the rest of the integs run 4-bolt wheels. Anyhow, he starts running circles around me for a while, trying to goad me into a race. So finally, when he falls back a bit, I take off, from 70 up to about 110, and he just gets smaller and smaller in my rear-view. I slow down to about 70 again, and he comes up, evidently having not learned his lesson, and proceeds to take off. I let him get a carlength or two and take off myself, and at around 85mph I sail by; ran 850RACR up to about 120, could barely make out his lights in my mirrors, and shut down. He then refused to pass me again as I cruised at 65mph in the right lane, and he took the next available exit. The education continues...

Ping, are you planning to resurrect the kill list?
Also, how do you like the OZ rims? I have been considering putting the same rims on except, I might try to run 215/45/17 tires.

Hehe--I didn't know people still remembered that! It's been a while since I've been able to actively do stuff with my webpage, and it's sort of temporary right now, but I'll definitely consider bringing it back.
I like the OZs a lot. The finish on the wheels is perfect, and they seem tough as I've been over some pretty rough pavement here in San Francisco and they've been fine. Let me know how the 215s work out if you decide to go with that--

I'm currently running 215-45-17's now. The only time they rub is at full lock.

Was it a stock Type-R? A Type-R with bolt ons is a tough run for even a chipped 850T. Stock Type R's run high 14's at the track, with bolt ons and cam's they can be easily made into low 14 sec cars. I found that out on Friday. I ran a modded Type R from a rolling start to 110 and he had me by a full car the whole run, He wasn't definately wasn't stock, he had intake, header, exhaust, and gutted interior. I've had my share of runs with honda/acura's and this is the only one I have lost so far

I love this.
I will forward your message to all my Honda friends (the ones that brag about how fast their souped up cars go-even though my 1999 S70 GLT STOCK kicked their butts)!
Any idea how fast my low pressure turbo goes 0-60 and how does this compare to the high pressure version (T5). What is the major mechanical difference between the GLT and T5?

I'm not sure on the exact times for the GLT vs. the T5, and they both can vary considerably depending on what magazine or what test drive report you decide to read. But in general I think that the GLT would run 0-60 around 7 seconds, and the T-5 in the mid-sixes.
As far as technical differences, to put it simply, the T5 has a larger turbo, leading to greater turbo lag, but also a greater kick once the boost is on. So the GLT could pull across the intersection, but the T5 will take over by the time you reach the next stoplight...

I think your numbers are little on the optimistic side.
Thr 850 GLT runs consistent 7.8 sec 0-60. The Turbo is usually in the low 7's, and occasionally breaks into the high 6's.
And these 0-60 numbers are with the torque convertor pre-loading technique for launching.

You're right, but that's true for the 850. Dennis was referring to the S70 GLT and S70 T5, which have both tested faster than the 850 versions.
I was referring to the S70 versions, and for those models, those numbers I quoted are most likely on the high side. For example, R&T has the S70 T5 listed at 6.1 0-60.
Of course, these numbers definitely include a brake-torque launch, but nearly all of the published numbers are attainted in a similar fashion, so comparisons are impossible unless everyone uses numbers achieved with a torque assisted launch.

"For example, R&T has the S70 T5 listed at 6.1 0-60."
Yes, but did you see the conditions for that testing. They were beyond optimal, not to mention the different transmissions.
I've had track time with S70 T5 auto. After 10 runs with the torque loading method, the average 0-60 time was 6.9. The fastest was 6.7, the slowest 7.3. And this was on a day at about 24 degrees Celcius, 65% relative humidity, using professional timing equipment.
An 854T auto after 10 runs had an average 0-60 time of 7.0. The fastest time running 6.8, and a slowest of 7.2. If you read the fine print, the 0-60 time for the 854T was recorded with an auto tranny, while the newer S70T5 was recorded with a manual.
The S70T5 does produce a pinch more power then the 854T, but it also weighs a little more as well. So if you are looking for the fastest stock Volvo excluding the newer S80 and S60, you are looking at the 850R or the T5-R manual.

You guy's didn't get them?!
I'm shocked, it seems you guys always get the best stuff.
Heck I see REAL 850 R's and T5-R's almost everyday. There aren't many of them, and those that I see are the same ones I see over and over again. But I know I've seen atleast 5 or 6 in my area a couple times.
Just Friday, I was cruising down Bathurst St, between Steeles Ave. and Finch Ave., just South of the 7-Eleven, and I saw this car in the distance with INTENSELY bright white headlights in the oncoming direction. I swear I have never seen headlights that bright before. And I just had to know what car it was. The car was a VERY dark blue, NOT black. It was day time so I knew for sure it wasn't black. And this car was just screaming. The closest cars behing him were atleast 500m back, and the speed limit was 60km/h, and he must've been doing over 100km/h. He had the R front fascia, the R rear spoiler, the R rims, etc.
I can't be absolutely sure, but I am pretty sure it was an R. And those head lights, WHERE CAN I GET THEM!!! No cheap blue, just way bright white.

just smoked a Subaru Legacy GT wagon this morning coming back from JB to KL! I'm not familiar with this car, it's not available locally here, definitely an import, but it has KL plates. is it a 2.0 turbo like the WRX?
the scooby overtook me at some 140-150kmh. I gave chase. we were doing speeds between 200 - 240 for some 10mins or so. as there was traffic ahead and he was leading, we slowed. when it cleared we both accelerated at approx 150. i was confident i had enuff power to overtake but he wasnt giving way (and we were both still accelerating), so i took him on the inside at some 200. from there on - no looking back.
i could see in the rearview mirror i was drawing away every time i neared 240, mebbe he couldnt reach this speed. so i let off to 180, as he neared i floored the pedal, i saw in RV mirror he accelerated as well (front "lifted" a li'll). i drew away pretty quickly, by 220 was clearly some way ahead. did that twice, each time when i reached hi-speed he was left further n further back, only to catch up whenever there was traffic. after a while i gave up, the thrill was decreasing rapidly, esp when i'd made my point.
oh yeah, hit 245 and can still go faster but opportunity limited.

for reader's info: the Subaru Legacy GTB wagon (the "brother" of the Legacy RSK sedan, and "cousin" of the famed Impreza WRX) has a 2.0 liter twin sequential turbo, 260hp engine.
