radio quit 1997 850

Hi all,

Unexpectedly my radio just stopped working one day. It will not power up at all, no flashing red LED, no "code" messages... nothing. I checked the fuse and it looks fine. I fear that it may have bit the dust and has taken a new CD of mine hostage along with it!

Any ideas as to what happened?

Also cruise control is not working either. Haven't looked into that at all & I'm not sure if it ever did on this car. ( some may remember that this car was a project I did over winter so I never drove it until quite recently)

If you need a replacement, I have a couple, an SC-816 and an SC-901, plus a Volvo amp and harness. All plug and play.

Perhaps, depending on what you wanted for them. I had an 816... unfamiliar with the 901.

The SC-901 was a Volvo head unit with lots of upgraded features. It requires the amp and harness, but it is all plug and play. The amp sits inside the console.

Do a search on MatthewsVolvoSite for lots on information.

Interesting...

what were you looking to get for them? Feel free to contact me in private if you prefer.

Check under your passenger seat to see if you need an amp. (The SC-901 must have an amp to operate.) If not, you can save some money.

The SC-901 has an option for center speaker and/or a surround sound processor, but I don't have that.

I've got about $100 in the set up, SC-901, amp, and harness. I'd like to get that out of them. And I'd rather move them on to someone here than sell them on ebay.

I pulled these from my '99 V70 before I traded. I can send photos but never learned hope to post them.

David

I guess thats pretty reasonable, considering the prices I have seen on ebay etc. Please contact me via email and you can send pics there/ discuss the rest of the deal. thanks!

The 901 is real nice, but came with the S/V/C70 and has a gray face. Your dash has all black items. I forgot if the newer cars had rounded edges instead of 90 degree.

I think your current radio has an amplifier under the passenger seat.

You are going to have to pull the radio out enough to check the connectors in the rear. Don't assume the fuse is good, the 15amp in #7 might be a little loose.

As for the CC, not related. Most likely the switch under the brake pedal. Pull off the vacuum line at the small motor mounted under the battery tray (you should be able to see it with the battery in place. Put suction on the line that runs back to the firewall along the fender. If the throttle moves, the brake pedal switch is fine. The brake pedal switch has 2 vacuum lines on it and is easily broken during removal - the plastic tabs are brittle with age.

I checked the fuse and swapped it with another good fuse...no love. The contacts on the back look good and I re-seated them anyways for good measure. Again, no love.

My thinking at this point is that something went pop on the inside, but what is unusual is that didn't take the fuse with it...

Its a real shame because for a factory unit, this radio actually sounded pretty good.

If it is getting any power, there should be a blinking red light when it is off. You might want to consider taking the face off the radio and looking at the on/off switch??? You will need to do that to remove your CD anyway.
