Check engine lid up in the cluster panel... V70-XC70 2006

Hello

Yesterday, I did change both HID bulb in my V70 2006 AWD 2.5T. Evertything went well. Had to remove the airbox with the filter and mass airflow sensor and some other things I had to disconnect to work better in these area. After reconnecting/replacing everything correctly, I've started the car and all was fine. No check engine in the dash, both bulb working, etc.

Just after that, I've decided to wash the engine. I've covered the alternator with a plastic bag and started to shower the engine, gently, with only a light water spray to rince after cleaning engine top part with a rag. Did that and after, had the engine to run for almost half an hour to make sure everything dried up properly after spraying water. All was fine yesterday evening after the job was done. This morning, I've started the engine and whaaaa... check engine lid up on the dash. No alarm or event in the panel, nothing but the check engine light. Engine running smooth, no noise, no strange behaviors... We hit the road for almost 2 hours on the highway and still the check engine lid up. I've check all the connector I disconnect and reconnect while I did the work on the car the previous day but still the check engine light on...

I'm in Canada and will hit the road on sunday 4AM going to Florida. I don't know what to do, I don't have any code reader and my mecanic is on vacation. Maybe anyone here do have an idea of what have might have caused this check engine light on ?

Let me know, I'm in a great need of your advice on the next step.

Many thanks in advance

Bruno

I'm not sure what you have in Canada, but here you can stop any AutoZone or O'Reilly's Auto Parts and they will read the codes for you. Usually check engine codes are not fatal, emissions related failures. An engine code reader is about $40 if you want to do it yourself.

Let us know what you find. Maybe we can help sort it out.

      Hi

Not sure but what type of reader do I need to read check engine code on a V70 2006? My father got a ODB reader.... I though it need a specific reader for Volvo... Let me know what I need and I might just buy one Saturday before leaving Sunday ...

In the US, most autoparts stores will either loan you a reader you can use in the parking lot or read the code for you, free.

Most OBD scanners will work, but caution, there are some really cheap ones that only say pass/fail which doesn't do you any good.

Washing the engine can allow water to get into the spark plug holes and cause a 'misfire'. If this is the case, do not remove the plug, just get a rag and stuff it into the hole to get most of the water out.

Most electrical connectors will dry out in a day or two, but getting the code read and trying to delete it will give you piece of mind.
