Annoying Clunking Noise Please Help/ ABS Module 850 1996R S/W

I drive a 850R wagon. I get an annoying clunk when I am on the downside of a speed hump. The funny thing is that it occurs only when I go over it at a slow speed. The dealer has looked at the shocks no dismantling done. I have tighten up the undercarriage .Visually the sway bars look fine. Please help.

Does anyone know where I can source an ABS module at a good price. Is fitting it within a DIYer capability or does the module need reprogramming etc. Thanks

Re: Annoying Clunking Noise Please Help/ ABS Module 850 1996R S/W

Regarding the ABS module, I am assuming that you have already diagnosed this as the problem (versus other stuff, like the wheel speed sensors). As long as you get the correct part number and are comfortable wrenching brake lines, you can do this yourself. Also, you typically can not get the ABS unit in separate parts - you can buy the whole thing or nothing, you can't just buy the motor unless you go to a junk yard.

Also, don't forget to do a few ABS stops (like on a gravel road) after you bleed the brakes and then re-bleed the brakes.

I had the same exact problem! 850 1996R S/W

To me, it sounded like a clunking in a wheel well. After an underbody check, I thought it might be the running boards, the mud flaps, etc. Eventually I gave up and the mechanic took a ride with me for less than a minute, and he smiled and said "it's your anti-roll bars." I've known these mechanics for a while and I know they wouldn't screw me over. In fact, everytime I have work done on my car, I'm in the shop (probably breaking safety rules) chit chatting with the mechanics while they work on my car and the other cars the other mechanics are working on.

It is the sway bar. The reason you/the mechanic, can't see the sway bar as being damaged is because the sway bar breaks at the flex point which is covered by the bushing.

Sin Thanks!

Do you think I should go OEM or go for the IPD set.

My opinion . . . 850 1996R S/W

go with the iPd. They are both about the same price anyways, and EVERYONE that has tried them on their 850 has absolutely loved them.
