Smoother riding 855T 850 1995

Just an observation. About 8 years ago, faced with replacing my second set of 16" tires on the 855T and not happy with the noise, rough ride and expense of the 16's, I bought a set of new 15" V70 pull-off wheels from ebay for $300.

Since then I've been paying half what I would for 16" tires by putting 205/55x15 on and getting almost twice as much mileage, lighter steering and a much smoother ride. No perceived loss in traction either.

That and Bilstien touring class shocks & struts did a lot to civilize the ride. Now that the Turbo badge, along with the Volvo and 850 badges have fallen off of the liftgate, the only visual clue that it's a turbo is what's left of the rusting square exhaust tip.

Few of us in the USA can cruise at 130mph, so the harder riding "V" tires are a waste of money. It sounds like you are using "H" rated tires which will last longer and not ride as rough. The higher bias ratio will also let the tire flex more and cushion the smaller tar strips.

At your mileage, you will soon be elegible for a new exhaust from the cat back to the bumper, it is all one piece. The rectangular tip will be hard to find because they were only made for the 850 turbo cars.

New shocks/struts make a huge difference as the old shocks no longer dampen the small bumps and can feel like you are riding on a skate board.

Keep on truckin'.

Shocks, struts, mounts, spring seats, control arms and sway bar end links have all been replaced this year with OEM or better.

This weekend the recovered headliner goes back in, front doors get new straps and the passenger seat gets replaced.

Next weekend is oil change, rotation and alignment. Then new heater core.
Then on to a plug change in the '07 F150. Darn two-piece spark plugs. Bought a Lisle extractor just in case I break one.

Trying to get things buttoned up before short days and winter.

Cheers,

Erwin
