Replaced Hood - some questions V70-XC70 1999

Hello All,

Recently my daughter crashed my 1999 XC. Luckily she was not injured. I purchased a 2000 XC as a "donor car" to replace the front nose on my '99 XC. Some questions:

1) The replacement hood just past the grill has two round holes, where on my 850 wagons there are two round rubber plugs that screw in. These plugs are adjustable by turning them. You adjust them to keep the hood from rattling. My replacement hood doesn't have these rubber plugs, but it does have the two holes. Is a '99 XC equipped with these two rubber plugs or does it come without them?

2) On the hood just after the front grill, there is a a rubber weatherstrip that runs the length of the hood (from fender to fender). This weather stripping that is made of rubber, has "lip". When you install this weather strip. does the "lip" face the bumper or does it face the firewall in the engine compartment? Auto body shop installed this weather strip with the "lip" facing the firewall, but I think it should be facing the front bumper.

Thanks to all who respond.

Hugh

    Replaced Hood - some questions V70-XC70 1999

    I cannot verify on #2.

The hood should have come with 2 square rubber plugs, not adjustable, that sit on the hard plastic radiator shroud. Having a front end accident might have moved the radiator shroud back a little bit so that the rubber bumpers no longer touch each other. The hood latches on either side can be moved up/down a little to provide some noise abatement, but move them down too far and it will become difficult to unlatch the hood(too much down force) or have the hood lower than the fenders.

Some of us have resorted to glueing additional rubber the the 2 rubber squares to make up for the moved fan shroud.

Too bad that volvo stopped using the round adjustable stops.

      Klaus,

Thank you for your response. I have the two square shaped plugs as you described on the hood, so even though the pre-drilled holes don't have the adjustable plugs, I'm not missing anything.

With regard to Issue #2, the positioning of the weather strip, that might be tough. I have seen an XC with the strip in the same direction as mine, and another (a S70) in the opposite of mine. Who knows!

      Hugh
