Noise from timing belt area, when starting on cold days S70 1998

Searched forum, but not finding my symptoms ...
It's not serpentine belt/pulleys, as I removed serpentine, and noise is still there, coming from timing belt area. It's a cyclic noise, almost like chaffing, at a frequency of 80 chirps per minute at 900 rpm idle. Only happens when starting on cold days, and mostly goes away once engine is warmed up. I replaced timing belt, tensioner, water pump, and idlers 25000 miles (2 years) ago, and all was fine last winter and this past summer - no noise.
Anyone with similar symptoms have ideas where noise may be coming from?
Thanks in advance ...

The power steering pump can make noises like that too.
    Check fluid.

I had the noises on my 850. It turned out the timing belt cover was warped and was rattling. Especially when cold.

I had a similar issue but it turned out to be the serpentine idler. I isolated it by having a helper rev the engine while I used a mechanic's stethoscope on the bearing cap. I also had just replaced the rollers the summer before. Even though it was squealing when cold, usually at ~2200 rpm, it felt fine after I got it off. Apparently some of the replacements aren't greased as well as the originals.

Ditto, pull the cover before starting the engine (cold) and inspect the inside of the cover and look for rubbing marks. Then inspect the belt position on each roller and make sure the belt is not being held on by the cover!! 80 times/minute is about right for a belt to go 360 degrees at idle.

If it were my car I would have a look inside the timing cover to see if one of the rollers had a bad bearing. If you have the serpentine belt off you may be able to hear where the noise is coming from by listening to different areas of the timing cover with a dowel.
