Brake Click sound (vibration?) S70 2000

Hi Everyone:

I am expereiencing some 'brake vibration' symptom on my S70. It happens *only* when I am braking over some uneven (crack lines?) pavement of the road. The brake will have some 'click click' noise until the car stopped and then the suspension becomes very soft (nose dive). If I release the brake and brake again during stoppage(like pumping it once), the symptom of clicking will go away. (and the suspension returns normal)

It is definitely not ABS in function. This happens on one other S70 I sit on although the other S70 does not have the 'nose dive' problem.

I have talked to my volvo mechanics and they conducted tested but they failed to find any problems..

Any shed of idea on this?

Thanks

Re: Brake Click sound (vibration?) S70 2000

My S70 GLT 1999 does exactly the same since I bought it, except that the nose does not dive. So, the first time I went to the dealer's, I asked about it and the technical advisor was aware of this phenomenon.

It happens only when you brake over cracks or small bumps. It is due to the fact that your front wheels are slightly blocking for a half second or less while your car jumps and it indicates that your ABS is just about to function. But the delay between the moment you jump and the moment you touch the ground again is so short that it just makes that noise.

Nevertheless, I do not have any explanation for your nose diving.

Re: Brake Click sound (vibration?) S70 1998

I have a 98 S70 and I have noticed the EXACT same thing. I just recently had some work done on the car which included a brake inspection and they didn't mention anything.

I do not get that nose dive. But I know one place in my everyday drive where I get hte same exact reaction everyday, I am lightly braking while turning into a driveway with a small bump up to an incline and I feel the rapid "click click clicking" everytime until I let up on the brake.

If anyone knows what this is, I'm sure we'd BOTH be interested.....

Re: Brake Click sound (vibration?) S70 1998

I have a 2000 S70 also, and what I think you guys are talking about is the EBD(you can see the light on the dash, and read about this in your owners manual).

What EBD(electronic brakeforce distribution)does is as you apply the brake....the car will automaticly send more of the brake force to the rear wheels than normal. The fact that you both said your cars do it over a uneven road surface.....is exactly how it should work...the ABS knows the front wheels are not "grabing" like they should, so the EBD unit kicks in and sends some more pressure to the rear calipers...in what feels to me like "pulses".

Just a thought....but check your owners manuals for a better explaination.

Steve, no EBD on MY98 to the best of my knoweledge, mayby those guys have late '98 cars or early '99.
