And now...for another question (many months later)... V70-XC70 2004

So after much internal debate, I've decided to sell my 2004 XC70. It's just going to be far too costly for me to fix.

Some of the basics...

The car has 208K miles on it. The CEM is on its way out (usual issues...service messages popping up in the message cluster, car shutting down its electronics (once) while driving), and the AWD is not working.

With that said...how much can I legitimately get for this car? The engine and transmission are fine, and all of the power accessories work (save for the power seat). The front bumper is a bit tipped on the passenger's side, but nothing bad. Rest of the car is respectible.

I've been getting offers through WeBuyAnyCar and Craigslist of $200 - $400. Is this valid, or am I getting shafted?

Car is located in New Jersey, so I don't know what the market is like for these cars.

Thoughts? Advice? Any places that I should try and post for sale? I'd like it gone by the weekend (06/5-06/07).

Y'all are great. Thanks so much.

-Steve

A 'junk yard' will give you $400 for it. Northern New Jersey is higher priced than most areas. The CEM is a $500 fix, the AWD is probably about the same depending on what is wrong with the Haldex. The only negative is the 200K and a sagging bumper.

Clean the car, inside and out. Are there any service records? When was the last timing belt change.

I would start at $5k and then deducting everything you should have done to the car as if you were going to keep it for another 100K miles.

Well, there's the rub: I'm not the original owner. I have no idea what was done to this car, as I've only had it since November. I paid $1200 for it.....I highly doubt I could get $5K for it.

Just an additional thought. You live in NJ, a testing state. Your car will not pass the test in it's current condition, either the DIM or CEM need to be repaired to clear the error codes and allow for a clean test.

The AWD doesn't work. If the rear prop shaft has been removed, replacement is not cheap, along with a new Haldex box and/or repair of the bevel gear.

What you have is a 'parts car'. Except for the front bumper that sags. $900 sounds like a good asking price. Remember, just to repair the DIM and CEM will cost close to $1,000. To say nothing about the steering rack leaking.

In 'good' running condition, with AWD, your car should be worth more than $4,000.

The car passed the emissions test in November...before all of this happened. The sticker is good until 2016. Not that it'll mean anything to someone who lives outside of Jersey, though.

I'm not sure about the AWD, if the prop shaft was removed, or if the system just doesn't work. The PO said it was "disconnected", but she didn't indicate how.

That makes it a lot easier. $1500 or less on Craigslist.
