Bad bad noises from left rear wheel -2WD V70-XC70 2001

Greeting all, been a while.
V70 2wd Left rear wheel has a new issue. Klunking, binding, Backing down the driveway felt like the lug nuts were loose. (were not) Last night I jacked it up and removed the tire. No discernible bearing play in the hub. I will remove the disk tonight after work. The wheel will freely rotate for about 90 degrees then bind up to the point of needing to insert 2 lugs and put a bar between them to rotate more.

Caliper and pads seem ok visually. will remove tonight. Besides a bad hub bearing all I can think of is broken parking brake parts. What can I expect to see when I open this up tonight?
thanks
-Keith

Thanks all for the replies. The problem is indeed the E/P brake. Or to be more accurate, what is left of it.

completely destroyed. linings separated from shoes, retaining spring crushed, mounting lug sheared off. So I ask, can I just remove all parking brake parts from both sides, secure the cable ends and just live without the parking brake? My state, New Jersey only does vehicle inspection for emissions now. So, no issue there.
Thanks,
-Keith

Worse than mine! The cost isn't that bad to repair. I got shoes from Tasca, the OEM include hangers for the shoes. I also needed a new cable, spreader, and adjuster nut. All for less than $100.

Yes, remove the cable end and unhook it from the spreader. Shove the cable end back into its position on the brake housing.

Because one side does not work, the other side will not work either due to lack of cable movement.

Just avoid steep hill parking.

What you will probably find are one or both of the brake shoe pads loose. Go ahead and remove the pads that are loose, but not the metal backing plate, and then order some new ones. They are reasonably cheap and your E brake will work again.

If you remove the metal backing plates, springs, and expander, there is nothing to hold the cable end down and the metal will rattle at every bump. Besides, you want to save all of those parts.

Do not even attempt to engage the parking brake while the pad material is out of the car.

It sounds like the e-brake shoe broke off and is wedged in there.

Put the rotor with the access hole for the e-brake adjuster UP at 12 O'Clock.
The e-brake shoes are loosened by clicking the adjuster Down with a screw driver.
